The Sage
Sages are gatherers of information. They work to learn new and interesting things and add to their hoard of knowledge, experimenting with solutions and combinations of ingredients both magical and mundane. Sages are known for their intellect and reasoning and often have high Intelligence scores.
Goals of the Sage
The sage is one of the three Core crafting classes, mostly finding his focus in batches of Consumables rather than Durable Goods. He has some crossover in Professions with the Laborer, but in general he is the other side of the Laborer coin. All the potions, kits, scrolls, charged items, and other various esoteric stuff will have their base components crafted by the Sage. He has a wide variety of Professions available to him, just as the Laborer, and acts as the second anchor for the crafting system. While the Laborer Talents favor the physical aspects of crafting, the Sage's center in the mental.
Game Rule Information
Sages are a Base Crafting Class. Players can only advance in a crafting class (Base or Advanced) by gaining crafting experience (cxp). All crafting classes are capped at 10 levels, with a maximum of four classes and 20 crafting levels in total.

Starting Packages
PCs who wish to become Sages must have a minimum score of 10 Intelligence and Wisdom. PCs gain a bonus Profession at 1st level, and thereafter at every even level. Sages may select from the following list: Artisan, Alchemy, Herbalism
Talents
At 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th and 9th level, the Sage selects a talent from the following talent trees. Some trees have a set order that must be followed, while others provide a list to choose from. As long as the character qualifies, you can select freely from any and all talent trees. No talent may be selected more than once unless expressly indicated.
Beginning Talents: A 1st level Sage can choose from any of the following talents, in addition to those in the Mind Tree in the Shared Talent tree.
Education Talent Tree
Educated
The Sage applies his learning to his craft. The PC adds his Sage Levels to crafting checks for a particular Profession. This Talent can be selected multiple times but only once per Profession. Players may select from the following list of Professions: LIST TBD, SAGE PROFS ONLY (NO ACC)
Deductive Reasoning
The player may select one additional Profession. This Talent may only be selected once.
Scientific Method
The Sage follows a logical process, yielding greater success in the long term. Select this Talent to add the PCs base Intelligence Bonus to his Resource Bonus.
Eye for Detail
The Sage is a meticulous craftsman. In the chosen Profession, the Sage gains +4 to all craft checks but suffers a -4 to his Resource Bonus. This Talent can only be chosen once, and cannot be selected at 1st level.
Calculated Risk
When crafting a potion base, the Sage can choose to taste his mixture before it's complete. Activate this Talent to trigger a Knowledge Test at -5. Successfully passing the test reduces the Batch's CP by 25%. Failure reduces the Sage's CP by 25%, prematurely ends the crafting routine, and leaves the PC Dazed for 1d4 rounds.
Second Chances Talent Tree
Book Smart
The Sage gets a +1 bonus to Knowledge checks for every 3 Sage levels.
Patient Like a Fox
The Sage gets a +1 bonus to Patience checks for every 3 Sage levels.
Ambidextrous Brained
The Sage gets a +1 bonus to Creativity checks for every 3 Sage levels.
Smarter Than You
The Sage can re-roll any failed Knowledge check. This only happens once per check. Requires: Book Smart
Nerves of Steel
The Sage can re-roll any failed Patience check. This only happens once per check. Requires: Patient like a Fox
It's an Art
The Sage can re-roll any failed Creativity check. This only happens once per check. Requires: Ambidextrous Brained
Professions
At 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th level, the Sage gains a Profession. This Profession must be selected from the following list, and the Sage must meet any prerequisites.
